Rio,
All I can tell you is: DON'T BELIEVE A WORD THEY SAY!!! Our most vindictive
managers are the ones that came from your property so I can't imagine what you
have left is any better! And they are the worst at their jobs than any we have
had thru all of our sales. They schmoozed us-then threatened us- they have
already threatened the dealers at Harrah's-don't fall for their BS! They don't
want all the properties to go union because it gives us more power and them
less. Wait and see! Are you kidding- time is of the essence-get your cards in
today and don't let the momentum die. More properties are on line now to file as
soon as the holidays are over. Get your cards in.

#438 A Rio Dealer 12-30-07:
The Rio is already
starting to try and bust up any organizing on behalf of the dealers. We had a
pre work buzz session/meeting announcing they will not take our tokes and put it
in writing in a memo, and it would be in our best interest to see what happens
at Caesars and Wynn with their contracts before we make a decision and that
going union would be a bad idea for our tokes because it would become a
negotiating point. Here we go....
RESPONSE:
We have been hearing
about MANY casinos now having pre-shift meetings such as this. Some have even
had mandatory "captive audience" meetings already as well. We have
even heard of the bulletin posted at one casino that says, "If the
Dealers here do what has been done at Caesars Palace, things are going to get
worse." A direct "illegal threat" to the Dealers on that
property.
Now, about the
"memo":
1. Was
the "memo" at the Rio signed by anyone? Make sure that you Rio Dealers
preserve a copy of that memo, especially if it is signed. Better yet, fax a copy
of it to the Las Vegas Dealers Union at (702)476-0649 so the Union can have a
copy of it on record (intent).
2. In
this day and age of computers, a non-signed memo is very easy for any of us to
produce to make it appear it has come from management.
3. If
in fact it is a signed "memo" from the Rio management, it is NOT a
legal binding agreement. What is to stop management tomorrow from issuing a new
"memo" stating that on a certain date they are going to now be
collecting your tokes for redistribution? The "memo" previously
issued? Sorry guys, but it was only a "memo" and NOT a contract. How
many times has management put out a "memo" to correct or change a
previous "memo"? Many.
Tokes becoming a
"negotiating point"? That is true. Tell us, can you
"negotiate" them now? Have you ever been able to? Both answers are
"NO". Just ask the Wynn Dealers if their tokes were negotiable the day
Steve-O took them. Nope, he snatched and grabbed them. No negotiations involved.
So, if and when the Nevada Courts uphold what Steve-O did as being
"legal", wouldn't you rather be in a position to actually
"negotiate" than a position of being dictated to? If you have no
rights to negotiations, such as being a non-union employee, they will decide for
all of you what is best for THEM, not you.
In most professions,
including Law, there are "generally accepted principles". In the
history of the world, tips have been seen as being the property of the person
who has received them. We have a very long history in Las Vegas that the tips
bestowed upon a Dealer is for that Dealer as an individual or for all of the
Dealers who are in the accepted "toke pool". With that in mind, what
are they going to say in negotiations? That the tips belong to the casino?
That would be like us saying Loveman's bonuses belong to the Dealers.
Yes, they are going to
try to get all of you to take the "wait and see" approach. Why? We
believe so that if/when the courts decide in favor of Steve-O that they want to
be able to have the option of taking your tokes for redistribution, and if
everyone has sat back to "wait and see" what happens, they will be led
right down the path to toke confiscation. If they can save the corporation 10's
of millions of dollars a year in salaries/wages by supplementing those
salaries/wages with tips earned by Dealers, you think they won't? Just look at
all of the other cost-cutting measures they have already implemented, many at
the expense of their very own customers who are their sole source of revenue. If
they don't care about the very people who make their business a viable business,
do you really think they care about a working "grunt"?
If any Dealer in this
town takes the "wait and see" approach, they deserve what they get in
the end. Stand up for yourselves and stop being led around like sheep! Hopes and
dreams are nice things to have, but so is money to pay the bills and send the
kids to college.
Secure YOUR future NOW
and get your Authorization Card in TODAY, or suffer the consequences the casinos
will be doling out to each and every one of you in the very near future.

#437 A Harrah's Entertainment Computer IP Address 12-27-07:
Has anyone gotten in
writing that the union will be able to have any control over tokes. It was my
understanding that since tokes are optional, they are not covered under the
union contracts.
RESPONSE:
You guys just don't quit

This Reader is
identified to us as being from a Harrah's Entertainment Server by their IP
number.
As we can all see, they
are continually trying to spread "false rumors". Is this another ULP?
Maybe. Just keep racking them up. Not only do we have the IP number from your
computer, which identifies the server you use as being registered to Harrah's
Entertainment, but we also have the time stamp on the Feedback. Both of which
can be used to identify who had access to the computer used at that time by
Harrah's upper management. Grow up already will ya's?
Now to put the
"rumor" you are trying to spread to rest, Tips ARE covered by
Union contracts! Why don't you pick up a copy of the Culinary contract
and read it. We are sure you have a copy of it lying around your office. And if
you don't have a copy, this serves to further identify who you are, lower
management.
We want EVERYONE to
please consider these things:
1. Management has made
the statements to hundreds of Dealers in the "captive audience"
meetings that we earn the most money in town. Thus recognizing tips are our main
source of income.
2. The NLRA prohibits
ANY "unilateral changes" to our wages, benefits and working
conditions. So, what does "tips" fall under? It can be easily argued
that because our tips reflect 80%+ of our taxed income that they would at the
very least fall under "benefits". Also, because when we file our
income taxes we are taxed on one line which is called wages/tip income, both
being identified together by the IRS. Actually, while researching past NLRB
decisions in cases that the employee earned tips, they were granted "tip
income" when back pay was granted by the NLRB, e.g.. ( http://www.nlrb.gov/shared_files/Board%20Decisions/330/330-53.htm
).
Now, you work in an
office of Harrah's Entertainment and your computer, identified by your IP
number, has accessed this website for countless hours (actually, we have a
count), yet you play ignorant to the Culinary contract and NLRB decisions
concerning tip income? You had better "educate" yourself please,
especially if you are one of our supervisors.

Wynn, and Caesars Palace.
I was a dealer that was involved in the 2001 organizing effort. After the
effort, I was discharged by my casino at their first opportunity. All organizers
at our casino from the 2001 effort are history. Tell me the casino holds no
grudges.
I have left the dealing profession for health reasons. I was screwed over many
times by MGM Mirage corporation. They even screwed me out of 6 weeks vacation
pay and tokes.
If a union were in place, this never would have happened. Congrats to the
dealers for standing up for security and fairness. It has been a long time
coming!!!

Palace Floor Supervisor, I would like to congratulate you all on your win. I
supported you as did many other supervisors. Hopefully this will show that Harrah's
does not treat their employees as great as they think. Maybe they treat
themselves great, but not the ones that matter...

take the reins. It can be done very covertly. It takes passion and drive to
accomplish it.

Someone should think about getting a hold of stations properties next!!!!

It doesn't work like
that. Someone from the Stations Casinos must get a hold of the Union Organizers.
You can reach them by calling (702)476-0648. The sooner you do, the faster the
U-Train can stop at your casino! Keep this in mind, it took the Caesars Palace
Dealers nearly six months to accomplish this. It can be done faster, but that is
all dependant on how fast your casino can get Union Authorization cards in. Call
today and get something started NOW.

What a great day,
however management still does not get it .GS was a perfect gentleman in defeat,
however the same can not be said about Jimmy W and his sorry crew. They are
starting to harass people again. But the game has now changed, so I suggest we
call Gary Selesner's office, leave a message with his secretary out lining our
problems and point out the fact that we have bypassed HR because Dean A. is JW's
drinking buddy. And that this is one of the main reasons why GS did not know
what was going on, because JW & DA did not give him the facts.

Professionals! It is too bad that so many who this does not really affect have
to take things personal. We have stated from the very beginning this Union drive
was not personal, but it seems a few in management are trying to make it that

We have achieved a
great victory for every Dealer in this country! For every Dealer on the Strip,
Downtown, neighborhood casinos, all Nevada casinos and Reservation casinos.
No, we did not have
our tokes confiscated and were not "reacting" to thievery. What we
have done is protected what we have from the continual losses. Many may not
understand and think that they would love to have our job, no matter what the
benefits are or are not. But they have not been through five take-overs with
each old owner draining them as they leave and each new owner draining us as
they come in.
This is not about
money totally, but about security and our futures. This is about knowing that as
long as we do our job, that we will survive the shift and not be fired on a
whim. This is about us sharing in the success of the business that we make
successful. Who in any job at any casino wants to be fired because a drunk lost
their money and complains? Nobody, not even the Dealer at the El Cortez. We are
protecting what we have, bottom line.
Yes, we do like our
jobs for the most part, and we do make a good living. Because of this we want to
protect our livelihoods. We all live "within our means" and any
significant change can bankrupt any one of us, no matter where you work or how
much money you make. When you have children in college, or mortgage payments or
car payments, who doesn't want to protect those things? We all do.
For those who say
that a Union will make us all lazy, that is total BS. We know where our money
comes from, and it comes from our customer service. When they stopped dice from
going TFT and pooled the entire casino Dealers into one pool, we heard the same
talk, but it never happened. If anything, we will all be able to be more of our
true selves and that will translate into a better living for all of us. No more
worrying about who we have to "suck up" to to keep our jobs, just
doing our jobs will now be sufficient to be able to live long full lives in the
casino industry...fear free.
Well, great job by
all 560 Dealers at Caesars Palace. Our futures now have a bright light. We can
now all relax a little bit.

trick's of management and there overly paid union busters. The TWU stated one

If I understand my laws correctly, Caesar's is
restricted from lobbying with the dealers 24 hours before a vote, for
instance, putting up a flyer that suggests the dealers should vote
"no" on the 22nd. Classy move Caesar's Palace, threatening
continued animosity if the union is voted in, and possibly breaking the
law yet again. I say yet again because of the highly publicized building
violations and rampant stories of intimidation regarding the union vote.
How could anyone, dealers or otherwise, be comfortable entrusting their
futures to people whose regard for the law is so casual? I suspect their
regard for employees is equally low. To not protect yourselves against
such an organization would be akin to unforgivable, and if you do not, I
won't be sorry for you all, although, I sorrow in the fact that my own
chances of someday seeing my own group unionized will be greatly
diminished.
I feel a strong brotherhood with you all, and I hope
you do the right thing, for yourselves firstly, and for many, many others.

Your Days of INTIMIDATION are over. As I quoted a Wynn dealer before :
THESE CORPORATIONS MAY HAVE BILLIONS OF DOLLARS, BUT WITH ALL THEIR
BILLIONS, THE ONE THING THEY CAN'T BUY IS YOUR RIGHT TO VOTE YES.
These are things you need to remember :
1). The multitude of letters sent to our homes thanking us for attending
their meetings. WE were FORCED to attend. WE WERE NOT GIVEN A CHOICE.
Jimmy's first letter to us was a lie. No one from the union prevented us
from going home, bothered us at our homes, or rang the phones non stop.
Our upper management at Caesar's were the only one's who harrassed us
constantly without letting up.
2). Harrah's talk about all the facts they've given us. They were either
complete outright lies, or half truths, and every single one of them were
discredited.
3). Harrah's talk about the ever rapid growth of Caesar's Palace, and then
mentions the "Dying TWU" in the same breath (which isn't dying),
but they never bring up how their employees get screwed more each time
Caesar's Palace breaks record profits. The more we work and give, the more
they take from their employees.
4). In the last letter to us from Unwin, he says he knows we feel great
pride working at Caesar's palace. Well, we did, until Harrah's took over.
They not only abuse us, but make our customers suffer as well. We hear it
everyday on the game. If we were so happy here, and we're so proud to work
here, why would we want to go union ?
5). Do I think TWU can make it's promises come true ? The Wynn dealers are
happy with them, just ask them. I do know one thing, Harrah's promises and
their word don't mean a thing. We have no where to go but up if we join
forces with the TWU's help, because we've been on a downward spiral since
Harrah's took over. They talk about Caesar's growth, but not our growth. I
think I'll take my chances with TWU and watch their growth instead,
because at least I have the opportunity to grow with them, unlike with
Harrah's.
6). Everybody who is afraid for their jobs, their 401k, and for those who
have been intimidated by management, the past few weeks. Don't be. If you
vote YES, you won't have to be afraid again. If you vote NO, you will
always have to be afraid, because they will always intimidate and scare
you, because you won't have a union to protect you.
7). For those who were happy with the way things were, you must be one of
Wike's favorite few. The one's who get all the bonuses ($$$), perks of
lots of early outs, never getting in trouble, comp dinners with bottles of
wine at the gourmet restaurants at Caesar's, etc ..... I'd be happy with
the way things were too. If your not the favorite few, then your getting
ready to retire and don't really care, your new to Caesar's and really
don't understand the importance of your future, or management has scared
and intimidated you so that you are too afraid to know what to do.
8). We don't care about your billion dollar expansion. We are not excited
about it. You may be, but we aren't. Harrah's is excited because it makes
more money for the hotel and casino, and it puts more money in the
94,000,000.00 shysters pocket, Selesner's pocket, Jenkins pocket,
Unwin's pocket, upper managements pocket, and their select favorite few
they care to give bonuses out to.
9). Why should we get excited about this billion dollar expansion you keep
bringing up to us ? Is it going to mean the floor people are actually
going to get the raise they finely truly deserve ? Are they going to get
the bonuses they use to get twice a year like they use to before Harrah's
came in ? Does the expansion mean the dealers aren't going to work for
minimum wage anymore? IS THIS WHY WE SHOULD GET ALL EXCITED ABOUT THE
BILLION DOLLAR EXPANSION ? Or is everything going to stay the same ? Which
means, more money for you guys, and just more work for the dealers and
Floor people, and for the same or less pay ? I'd like to tell you what you
can do with your billion dollar expansion, but I would probably have to
stand in a very long line.
10). As it's been said many times before, "WE ARE HISTORY IN THE
MAKING". Every dealer in town is waiting to see what we do, and they
are PRAYING we vote YES for the union. They feel if Caesar's votes YES and
goes union, then there is nothing that can or will stop them, because we
paved the way. They have their TWU cards already signed, and they are just
waiting to see what we do.
PLEASE DON'T LET OURSELVES DOWN ON DEC. 22nd., AND PLEASE DON'T LET ALL
THE OTHER DEALERS IN TOWN DOWN. THEY ARE READY TO JOIN US. VOTE YES !

a locked glass case that the Dealers must walk by on the way to the tables
from their lounge. The poster says:
"If you want it all to end

What do we want to "end"?
The possibility of us losing our tokes to supplement the Floor? YES, we want
that to END, but because CP will not give us a legally binding agreement which
secures our tokes We MUST VOTE "YES", or the THREAT will
continue!!!!!!!
They are right, "Otherwise it
will continue" if we vote "no", and we very well could lose
our tokes and control of our tokes!! Do we really want "normal"? Do
we really want them to continue to control our tokes and our futures?
Once we ALL VOTE "YES", the
pressure will ease. It will get nothing but better!
DO NOT BE FOOLED BY THESE UNDERHANDED
TACTICS and ILLEGAL THREATS!!!!
This is who we work for, LAWBREAKERS!
WE NEED A CONTRACT or who knows what

We have also heard they conducted
"captive audience" meetings today. They were taking groups of
Dealers into the office to talk to them about the election on Saturday.
Federal Law PROHIBITS our employer from holding mandatory "captive
audience" meetings 24 hours prior to the election! AGAIN, they are
breaking the law!!!
Harrah's was just served with 17
"criminal" misdemeanor charges last week. This company
believes they are above the law! They just lost a $1.7 BILLION lawsuit because
of their illegal activity! In addition, EIGHT class-action lawsuits were filed
against them in 2006 alone!
If this company shows such disregard
for the law, can we EVER trust them, especially with our tokes? NO WE CAN NOT!

For all the Asian dealers friends who are still
confused and don't know how to vote, I am not going to encourage you to
vote yes but just think what is best for you, of course the union. Don't
be afraid of the management. I am not, I am an Asian dealer also. I do
what I think is best for me and the others, that's why one of my vote is
very important, so is yours. Don't let this opportunity go, if we lose,
you know what will happen, things will get worse than it is now. Maybe not
the hotel but an employee like me and you, if the management don't like
just how you look. They will try to get rid of you if they really want to.
Just don't screwed up, be careful. That's my opinion for now. Don't let

It is my belief that this is the most important step in
the city-wide union drive. The Wynn dealers vote can always be spun as a
reaction to what Steve Wynn has done. But there are many dissatisfied
dealers on the strip, who just want legitimacy, and a little respect. And
security. We used to enjoy some of those things in limited measure, before
that gaseous, greedy, disingenuous snake, I speak of Wynn again, blew it
all up with his "mistake". Hell, the courts should rule in our
favor just based on his own words. "I made a mistake", sayeth
he, and yet, the courts rule in his favor, in the midst of our testimony
against him, and his testimony against himself. Do his words mean nothing,
either, unless they speak of further enriching the elite? How can the
courts overlook his heart wrenching appeal to his own workforce about his
"mistake", while giving credence to his other testimonies about
how he believes himself to be in the right? Have they not heard his
pre-union vote appeal to his dealers about how he erred in taking their
money and giving it to the supervisors? He wants to be "your
guy".
It is my guess that all management want to be "our
guy" and give us a generous portion of our tokes, smile benevolently
upon us, and say, "you won't even miss it, trust us". I'm quite
finished with trusting. My rage has been kindled ever since the "best
owner to work for in the world" has turned into a nightmare.
Listen here CP dealers, we ARE truly counting on you.
Your vote will send a clear, unmistakable message that the time for
messing with peoples livelihood is over. Truly, dealers have been
compensated well over the years, but the price we have had to pay for this
is quite steep. Any complaints we have had over the years have been,
either overtly, or more subtly, greeted with a vague response along the
lines of, "you get such and such amount per year, deal with it"
types of answers. I'd like to reassert my personhood, if you guys don't
mind, and you guys, fairly or not, play a large role in tha

This Reader has zeroed in on exactly what this Union drive is
about...our tokes. Yes, many Harrah's executives have told us
"verbally" they will not take our tokes, then challenge the TWU to
put the Union's promises into writing. Well, Harrah's has NOT guaranteed us,
"in writing", that they will not attempt to seize our tokes for
redistribution now have they? Harrah's has offered no Dealer at Caesars Palace
a "contract" have they? The letters sent to our homes stating they
have no "intention" of taking our tokes is NOT an agreement that can
be upheld in any Court in this country. Can you purchase a home by sending the
bank a letter stating that you will make your payments? NO! Harrah's is trying
to keep us from reaching the negotiation table so we can come to an agreement.
Why? It is our opinion that they WILL seize our tokes if we do not protect
them in a contract.
The corporations "cut" everything to increase their
bottom line. Even the napkins used to wipe our mouths with have been cut from
nice soft tissue to scratchy paper dispensed from a box. Do you really think
they will not touch our tokes if they can save hundreds of millions of dollars
by taking them for redistribution? CP even PROMISED the Floor a raise this
month of $20 per day, and then back-peddled and have refused to give it to
them. So much for their "promises".
As for the Union putting their promises "in
writing", well the ONLY thing the Union is guaranteeing is that we will
be organized and will have the opportunity to sit at the negotiation table,
with our attorneys, and have a real say in our future. That "right"
is backed up "in writing" by the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA-Federal
Law), which is exactly what Harrah's is trying to keep us from having. Yes,
the Union WILL put their promises "in writing", by means of a
Collective Bargaining Agreement, which we the Dealers of Caesars Palace will
negotiate.
Also remember this, it is we the Dealers who EARN our tips
through our customer service skills. Harrah's does not require any customer to
tip us. If we were to rely on what we get paid in wages, we would ALL be in
poverty. It is our "skills" which earn our living and pay our bills,
not Harrah's generosity, or lack of.
When we all vote "YES" tomorrow, there are already
MANY casino Dealers who are standing in line to follow us. The Union has
received Union Authorization Cards from Dealers throughout the State and will
begin organizing them after we win our election. We are the main domino. Every
Dealer in Nevada, and the country, is looking up to us and all are praying
that we win. We will NOT let our Brothers and Sisters down!
Tomorrow, a new era begins!

Yes, there are many Dealers who were "happy"
with the way things were before the Union drive started. For the most
part, it was those who are new to CP and do not know how much we have lost
under Harrah's reign. You don't miss it if you don't know you ever had it,
correct?
Also, most were "satisfied" and not necessarily
"happy" with the way things are. But please keep in mind, the
Nevada Courts are hearing the Wynn case and will decide if what Steve-O
has done is legal or not. If the courts decide in favor of Steve-O and CP
decides to supplement the Floor's pay with your tokes, as at The Wynn,
will you be "happy" then? This is EXACTLY what this Union drive
is ALL ABOUT. Please keep that in mind.
As far as the pro-union people knowing who the anti-union
people are, we would guess that most all of those who are actually
involved with the Union DO know who is anti-union and DO leave them alone.
Remember though, there are another 500 Dealers who are NOT on the
Organizing Committee or are an IHO. So, we will relay your message here
for them to read:
Please, if you are "pro-union" and you happen to
encounter an "anti-union" person who does not mind giving up
$1500 per month from their tokes to management, please leave them be as
they evidently have other agendas other than their/your future income in
mind.

I cannot wait until we vote in the union.
I am so tired of the tension and the way the floor-people
(who, by the way, are just as mistreated as us, if not more) are sucking
up to management by wearing NO TWU pins. Thank God I had the foresight not
to give to the collection for Christmas. This is our fight and has nothing
to do with them....YET! They don't get paid enough for the type of loyalty
they are showing to Harrah's. They are not going to get promoted or even
get a raise...so why are they fighting against us so? I have overheard
many of them say that because of all the hours they will have to work and
not get paid for over the holidays that they are going to get FMLA's. Why
do any of us have to do this???? What is wrong with these people,
anyway???? The ONLY way to go is UNION!!!! People, please see what is
happening and get on board or mind your own business. Don't be looking for
ANY Christmas gift next year. I think you have tried our patience and our
generosity long enough. It is us against them...can't you see that?
RESPONSE:
Yes, there does seem to be some "tension" in
these last few hours before the election. When we vote the Union in, there
will be a very large sigh of relief. If however, it is not voted in, the
tension will rise to a level we have never seen or experienced before.
That alone should make everyone's "choice" easy.
As for the Floor wearing the pins provided by management,
we believe those wearing them are doing it in hopes of advancing somehow.
Little do they know, they are just "pawns" in the big game. As
the Reader says, the Floor may need the Union just as much as we Dealers
do, and for them to take a position against us is ludicrous. We figure the
only other reason they are wearing the pins is because THEY WANT OUR
TOKES just as bad as management wants to take them away from us.
They see it as the ONLY way they will get a raise.
We also know that those who are NOT wearing the pins are
showing their "silent support" for us. Thanks!

dice pits, I wish you all the best. However, I do believe that unless
there is some sort of solidarity with the Culinary, the consequences will
outweigh the benefits. My prediction regarding the sale of HET, will
result in a spin-off of Caesars to whoever. With any luck it would be
Crown.

We do believe that Las Vegas Dealers Local 721 will be
able to build relationships with all other Unions. That is partially what
organizing is all about.
Do you remember Caesars Palace in 1984? That was the last
time the Culinary called a strike there. As they were out on strike, it
was the Dealers (who were of course all non-union and had no contracts of
any kind) who were serving drinks, making beds, washing dishes,
etc...
With that in mind, having the Dealers organized will just
lend strength to every Union in Caesars Palace. If another Union inside of
Caesars Palace ever has to go on strike again, such as the Culinary, the
Dealers will not be there next time to do their jobs (not that they wanted
to do them last time, but as an "at-will" employee they had no
choice in the matter). The Dealers will have their own CBA and will not
take on any "scab" work. This is what scares the corporations
the most and why they are fighting us so hard now, they will be losing
"control" over us and will not be able to force us to do another
workers duties.
As far as the upcoming sale of CP, we are also very unsure of
what may happen. This "insecure" feeling is also what is helping to
drive us to organize. Many of us have already been through multiple take-overs,
and the results have NEVER been in our favor and we have always lost benefits
and/or take-home pay. We must lock in what we have now and instead of losing,
build upon on our base we are establishing. Everyone, both the casino owners
and the Dealers will benefit.

At one of our meetings when asked about our expensive
and bad health insurance, Tom Jenkins said that it was a national problem,
that health costs were rising all over the country. Then he said that
whatever we pay per month Harrah's pays four times that amount. Now I'm
hearing that Harrah's funds there own health insurance plan which is administered
by Cigna and that Harrah's makes a nice profit doing this. Does anybody
have more information about this or know where to find it?
RESPONSE:
Well, what you hear about Harrah's being
"self-insured" is 100% correct. You can confirm this in the Harrah's
2006 10K Annual Report.
We have not yet had the time to research the actual
balance sheet to determine what any profit/loss of the Health Insurance
may be. If it is not in their best interest from a financial viewpoint, we
don't believe they would be "self-insured" though. If you find
the actual numbers, please provide us with the information and link to any
verification.

RESPONSE:
Sorry about that, but we are "professional
Dealers", not typists. As our Union Local grows, we will be able to
afford someone who can do the "little things" which do need to
be done.
Please realize that a LOT of work is going into this
effort at a rapid pace, and there will be times that small things such as
typos do get through. Unfortunately we do not have an office loaded with
paid professional people to do all of the work that is being done. If you
would like to join us and help with some of the work (it is all volunteer
work), please call the Union office at 476-0648.
Remember, it is the Dealers who are the Union. Right now
they are concentrating on trying to do the BIG things, like securing
everyone's future by getting factual information out to everyone as fast
as possible. Please remember, they are also working 40 hours a week as
Dealers as well. Many are putting in 60-80 hour weeks every week in an
effort to secure our tokes and futures.
Actually, we are doing this instead of Christmas shopping
and enjoying the Holiday spirit with our families. We hope this will be
the best Christmas present we can give the entire profession.

company, I'd like to say how proud we are of you in Las Vegas. You are

friendly. But I can promise you that although Harrah's may be growling

As professional Dealers we know who is qualified and who
is not when it comes to our direct supervisors. When we see that those who
are very good at what they do continually get passed up by those who are
not very good, we do not wonder why.
People in charge surround themselves by people cut from
the same cloth. Brilliant leaders surround themselves with brilliant
people, as they know this is the key to their own success. Those not so
brilliant surround themselves with others who are not so brilliant, as
they know anyone who may be a tad bit smarter than them may be
"discovered" and are a threat to their very job.
The Reader mentions the situation most Floor find
themselves in, especially this time of year. The Floor are classified as
"salary" employees, yet if they work four days they get paid for
four. But, if they work six days they get paid for five. We realize that
the Floor are abused by management and hope that some day we can show them
what organizing will do for them as well.

Yeah, that's who we work for.
They will stop at nothing to try to preserve their bonuses
and to keep 100% control of their employees through fear and intimidation.
We truly believe it is backfiring on Harrah's though. There are a LOT of
very intelligent Dealers at Caesars Palace and in this entire country, and
they can't be fooled! We are getting stronger every day!
Harrah's has really upset a LOT of people with their
"tactics". Their true colors are showing brighter than ever. And
now they want to try to "buddy up" with people who they think
they can persuade? On Graveyard for example they are rotating Dealers on
and off a "dead" reserved game then placing a supervisor on each
side of them and trying to be "friends"! Well, they weren't
friends several months ago now were they? Today they want to be
"friends" and ACT like they are "concerned"? They MUST
be joking!
They really want to take control of our tokes so bad, and
they are seeing them slip away from them in front of their eyes and there
is nothing they can do to stop it now.
We are now experiencing the "calm before the
storm". Come Saturday, the Dealers are going to finally stand up for
their rights and finally all agree on one thing...ORGANIZING!

The think that you are an easy target.
Ask yourselves this. Why is management so interested in me all of a

favorite.
How does that make you feel? Sort of like a whore? They only know you when
they need you. Don't fall for their bullshit.
You are only Asian in heritage. While working at Caesars you are a dealer

You break with them daily. You are one of them.
Show management that you understand this. More importantly show the other
dealers that you understand this.

dealers AND MANAGEMENTS!

How shameful is that?! Why can't you just say you are management and you are
stating your opinion as such? Instead you have to try to put on a mask and

strong arming! LOL!
Who is calling "mandatory meetings" that
MANAGEMENT forced people to go to and made the Dealers pay for out of
their own pockets? MANAGEMENT!
Who is calling a particular group into the office one at a
time and trying to scare them? MANAGEMENT!
Who is threatening people with their Green Cards and jobs?
MANAGEMENT!
The ONLY one's "threatening" people IS
MANAGEMENT! We have a stack of statements to back it up!

For the most part, Dealers of Caesars Palace do not want
to "move up" in the company. They are happy Dealing. Ask most
supervisors and they will also tell you they would prefer to be a
Dealer.
"Moving up" in the company, for those who wish
that path, is a very slow process and very limited to a select few.
Chances are, one who is looking to "move up" will do almost
anything to do so, including lying to those they work with in hopes that
someone "above" them will see their dirty deeds and be promoted
because they hope to portray the "company man" image to them.
Not the course many Dealers want to take.
You have picked a very poor example for a comparison to us
when you chose the automobile companies. Are you so blind you can not see
what the corporations are doing to those workers? They are OUTSOURCING
their jobs to countries where labor is cheap so they may increase their
profits! Try outsourcing a Dealers job! (Actually, they are trying in
Macau, but that is a whole other subject). Unions are NOT failing, it is
just that corporations in an effort to line the pockets of the top
executives, are doing everything they can to eliminate the
"costs" associated with Labor. They would have us all work for
free, and if it were not for Unions, we would be!
The next time you have a weekend off with your
family...Thank the Unions.

in their negotiations, they personally told me that they are extremely
happy with the way things are going! They said that they are glad they
went union and the only reason they haven't signed a contract yet, is because
they are waiting to see what happens in the Supreme Court before they
finalize any agreements!

them, then they don't have to fire them either! No unemployment benefits!

Why is Harrah's fighting a few dealers about going
union when they have major problems in their construction at every
property. The construction problems are because they created their own
company so they could save money, as usual. And who paid the price? The
workers that just followed orders and were laid off just before Christmas!
Merry Christmas, you have no job! The first to be laid off was the man
that "blew the whistle" on their cannibalizing the fire safety
equipment and putting guests as well as employees lives in danger. Then
Loveman puts out a statement that says to others "Please use the
hotline and we will listen". Bull Crap!!
That is the same reason they don't want us to
unionize!!!!They want to save money!!
If we got a dollar an hour raise for 600 dealers it
would cost them $1,248,000 per year so Mr. Loveman may only get
$91,000,000 per year but then he could give say 100 floor supervisors
maybe a $5.00 per hour raise and that would cost say another $1,040,000
per year and Mr. Loveman would only get $90,000,000 a year in bonus
money...geeez...If they didn't pay all these union busting attorneys they
could have already given at least the floor supervisors a raise. But then
again, Mr. Jenkins said if he didn't think he was getting quality help he
would give them a raise. That seems a little backwards to me! Quality help
deserves a raise. A real raise , not a carrot dangled in front of their
face called a bonus, a bonus that is decided by a bias group of managers
that reward their "SUCK-UPS" instead of on the quality of work
an employee does.
I AM SICK TO DEATH OF THEIR LIES-LIES -LIES!!
If you believe they give a damn about you or which
union you are joining then you need some serious help! THEY DO NOT CARE
ABOUT ANYTHING BUT THE BOTTOM LINE!!!
I pray when the new company takes over that they get
rid of the "Harrah's" name and goes back to "Caesars
World" Most of us are ashamed to say we work for Harrah's. Pride of
our work place is something we always had in the past but now we are the
laughing stock of the strip!! I should say "were the laughing stock
because once again, the rest of the strip is looking to us for leadership
in our future as dealers. Dealers that deserve toke security, job security

"eligible" to vote and who is NOT eligible to vote. Not only
that, but in the last letter received from Jenkin, they have tried to
insinuate we have lied as to who is eligible to vote (guess because we

themselves). We have NEVER said that "part-time" Dealers could
not vote! NOT ONCE! Think about it people, we went around and talked to
many of you on an individual basis explaining that the
"part-time" Dealers CAN VOTE and told everyone why, because we
wanted them to!
Now, we have caught them in ANOTHER lie in the letter they
mailed to every Dealers homes! How many lies must they commit before everyone

this, Steve Wynn is in a legal battle for ALL of the casino corporations
RIGHT NOW over the toke redistribution. Do you really think that he will
lose? Possibly, but then again, this IS Nevada where the casinos run the
State.
With that in mind, don't you think that the corporations
are ALL sitting back and watching to see if he wins? Why do they want to
also get in the fight when they have someone else doing it for them?
Guarantee that he has their backing though. They are waiting to see if
they too can do what he has done unabated. Then if they can, if you think

This for the people who are afraid, those who are
"sitting on the fence", and those who are against the union. The
time is drawing near. The voting date is around the corner. Dec. 22nd will
decide our future, and our fate. I sit at work, and hear those against the
union trying to sway those who are afraid and those who are "sitting
on the fence", by saying that the dealers who want the union are
lying. They say the hotel can still take our tokes during negotiations,
that we will all eventually have to pay dues, that we all aren't being
told all the facts, just part of them. The one's against the union are
lying. Everything that you have read PRO union can be verified, and looked
up. It is the law, and they are FACTS. Instead of listening to people's
opinions, and everyone has an opinion, isn't it better to check out the
FACTS yourself ? Instead of listening to people who sound like they have a
clue, but in reality, DON'T. We see that in every meeting we have with
Jimmy Wike and/or Jenkins. They try to sound like they have a clue, but
the majority of us know they are lying, but boy, don't they try to sound
good ? Like they know what they're talking about ? See what I'm saying?
The people who are against the union, are the chosen few, because they've
always been treated well, never been in trouble, never been sent to the
office, chewed out, they've always received all the perks (bonuses, favoritism,
etc ...), so they don't understand why a union is needed since things at
work are so great. Other people are "some" of the old timers,
who don't understand, and maybe don't really don't care to understand this
whole union thing, and think they have to pay money out of pocket, or have
money deducted from their paycheck, and/or they are retiring soon, so
don't give a lot of thought about the union either way.... And the last
group of people are the one's who are just afraid and confused because
they have so many people in their ear saying "it's good, it's bad,
it's good, it's bad", and after so much of that, they just don't know
what to do, or who to believe.
LET'S PUT THINGS IN PERSPECTIVE :
1). Anything you see on the Caesarspalacedealers.com website, and the
paperwork you see on the tables in the break rooms at work, that are PRO
union, can be looked up and verified, and proven true. They are all public
records open to the public, which by in itself, discredits the paperwork
put out by management. These are things you have to look up for yourself,
if you want to know the truth, instead of just listening to someone's
opinion at work.
2). Wynn is union, and management brings up, look where
it's got them with TWU. They are still in negotiations. Do you know where
and what it's got them ? If you went to a meeting that the TWU offers,
just out of curiosity, you will see Wynn negotiators there. Steve Wynn
said he would never sit at a negotiating table. Guess what ? He is. Since
the Wynn dealers have gone union, not one dealer, IHO, or negotiator for
the dealers, has been fired for being in or part of the union. Nothing
else has changed, nothing more has been taken away at Wynn, and more than
half of their issues have reached some kind of agreement. Jimmy Wike and
Jenkins asks "What's taking them so long? if the TWU is so
great". They want their tokes back. They get their tokes back, they
sign a contract. I think that's worth the wait for them. Does Jimmy Wike
or Jenkins think they should sign a bad contract because it's faster ?
Everything is STATUS QUO at Wynn, so what's the rush ? Voting for the
union with TWU was a good thing for the Wynn dealers. They will tell you
so themselves. I stand up and applaud the Wynn dealers for their courage,
and vision of knowing to unite. I Thank the Wynn Dealers for showing up at
TWU meetings on their own time to support us, and telling us that it is
the right thing to do. The Wynn dealers have no regrets with TWU. As one
Wynn dealer said at the end of our meeting "They might have billions
of dollars, and can buy anything they want, but the one thing they can't
buy, is your right to vote YES".
3). Deciding to vote union Dec.22nd, is not a whim. We
as dealers have wanted a union for many years, and have tried
unsuccessfully many times over the years, because we could not unite.
Times have changed, and as the years pass, it changes even more.
Unfortunately always for the worse, and corporations are a different
monster altogether. We are history in the making. Caesar's Palace has
always been the premiere Hotel and Casino of all the Casino's since it's
opening in Aug 1966. The name alone speaks volumes. It has it's own
mystique unlike any other. The whole country is watching to see what we
do. Harvard is studying us, every Casino here in town and across the
county is waiting to see what we do. Casino's everywhere want to go union,
and if we vote union, everyone will follow, because they are experiencing
what we are going through, and they don't want what happened to the Wynn
dealer's to happen to them. We are the Flagship, and all eyes are on
us.
As I've said before,
"We are the backbone of the gaming industry, We
must Unite, and We must Vote YES".

again disappointed! The same old lies I have been hearing for years! Still
trying to make me believe that what I've been getting for years is enough!

Well I would like to see that in a binding agreement, without the union
their are no guarantees!
Of course they don't believe dealers need
representation! They would like to treat us like crap! Fire us when they
feel like it, keep extra-board waiting for years while they hire anybody
they want! Tell us who to pay with our tokes, when they tell us too! Don't
forget we paid for all the new dealers to learn, and that only changed
after we started collecting cards, they never even asked us if it was
okay, They just took our money!
The 4th letter is full of lies! Just like we've always
gotten! We are not dumb, we remember. You would like us all to believe
that we can trust you...but without a contract nothing will change and in
fact in will even be worse.
They talk about all the money the new company is going
to put into Caesars. Are they going to give me better benefits? Are they
going to raise my wages? Are they going to give me a process for
disciplinary actions? Are they going to give me seniority? Are they going
to give me a binding agreement in regards to my tokes? No!! I didn't think
so. They aren't going to give me anything in proposal to job
security!
I know I am voting "YES" for the union! I don't
care about your website, your lies and your garbage letters!
I don't have to keep defending the TWU! I've done my
homework!
The dealers will be strong in this town!
We have FINALLY had ENOUGH!

I disagree with post #335. CP has given up on everybody
who is wearing their TWU pins. Like a political election, they are
fighting for the "undecided" in the middle, and they need their
opposition out of the picture.
Sure, you may have to sit through another asinine meeting or two, but by
doing so, you have the opportunity to help sway the vote in favor of the
Dealers.
They would much rather have you out of their meetings than standing up and
asking questions for which they have no answer. Just think of what
happened in the drive to have cards signed. As more people saw that
Management had no real answers for difficult questions, more cards came
in. The same applies to the vote.
They do not want anybody in these last few meetings who might make them
look stupid!

Agreed! If they know exactly who to keep out of the
meetings, they will. As long as everyone is NOT wearing their buttons,
then they will get to go to the meetings and ask the "real"
questions.

Well I feel like a idiot. I gave $50.00 to the floor Christmas
fund and now I see some of them wearing the NO TWU buttons. That will be
my last Christmas gift to them as long as I work at Caesars. The only
reason I can think of that they would wear a no TWU pin is that they hope
we vote against the union and they will get a cut of our money. I don't
see all of them wearing the buttons so I guess it's a personal choice. I
gave the money because it was never a personal issue but now it is. It's
sad that the actions of a few make them all look like vultures.
I haven't been wearing my TWU pin every day because
sometimes I forget to bring it. I got some buttons yesterday and put them
my locker and I will have my TWU pin on every day until we vote yes on
12/22.
I wish Harrah's took as much time trying to make my
job, medical, 401k, hourly pay and my working conditions better as they do
trying to defeat this union drive.
One last thing. They ( Wike, Jenkin) keep saying that
the TWU has no experience with dealers. Well, neither did the UAW in
Detroit, and they are doing just fine.
RESPONSE:
Yeah, many of us gave to the Christmas fund, and we feel
the same way. Funny, those wearing the pins (pencils and ACM's) are the
ones who will be getting the biggest cut of the donations too.
We have also seen 2 new extra-board Dealers on Swing Shift
wearing the management pins. These girls have been at Caesars Palace a whole
two weeks, but were TOLD to wear the pins. Probably either by Z or M.D.
(pencil).
As far as the TWU having no experience with Dealers, you
are right about the UAW (who refused to come to Nevada to organize). One
other point, our leader, Gary Loveman, had ZERO experience in gaming when
he was appointed to the #2 position (#1 position 5 years later) in the largest
gaming company in the world. So, how does that work?

I sure hope the Apollo Investment Group is on this
website as well. They are inheriting the worst management team in Las
Vegas. Even though Steve Wynn stealing the dealers tokes is the main
reason we are unionizing, the sorry way Jimmy Wike runs this hotel is the
other reason. Everyone on the strip, including our customers, knows the
incompetence that is running rampant at Caesars Palace and the customers
are suffering too.
Harrah's management theories of ACM'S instead of pit
managers leaves a huge breakdown of information. They are paying higher
wages to a few and getting a lot less for the money. We have more chiefs
that don't know the day to day operations than any hotel on the strip,
even today with the new limits going into place some of the floor
supervisors didn't know about it. What are they doing in the buzz
sessions...oh yeah...they were busy handing out NO TWU PINS... they
changed the rules on the Asian games in Pit 2 a couple of months ago and
the supervisors still don't know what exactly the rules are...not to
mention on some of the shifts, they don't have anyone on the floor that
even knows the games!! Not even the shift managers or ACM's!!!!
One of the day shift supervisors stated today because
the smoking room was closed down that she didn't want to sit in the other
room "with those idiots" and that is exactly the mentality of
our management!
If you want to run a casino with the proper line of
management, break down then ask Terry Lanni! and abandon this Harrah's
incompetent style...please...for all our sakes....signed A long time loyal
and proud Caesars Palace dealer!
RESPONSE:
We are sure that our new owners are keeping a close eye on
everything. We were informed many many months ago, by one of the members
of the new management team coming in to replace the current ones (yes,
they are going to be replaced no matter what they have been told. If you
don't believe that, think about what they are telling us and how much
"truth" there is in what they are saying. Well, they are getting
the same treatment, as they will soon see), that Apollo is very aware of
everything going on, and when they arrive, heads will be rolling.
EVERY DEALER must also be aware, we have been informed by
the new Apollo Management Team that anyone who can NOT do their job
professionally will be gone. This is for ALL LEVELS of employees. The
difference is, we will have an option that will help protect us, the
Union! Good luck management, our sources are VERY reliable ;)

If one of you ask me these questions again - I will sue

look at the failure to pull the proper permits for their construction
expansion- just look at how they cannibalized parts from safety equipment
and put the guests in danger at the Flamingo- they have the hotel

At the Mirage we have a dealer who had breast cancer
not once but twice in four years. This is a dealer with over 20yrs of
service. She went past her 6 months of leave and was told if she self
terminated herself then when she got better they would hire her back. She
believed the lies and quit rather then be fired. Well she is better now,
but our casino MG. will not even take her call's she was referred to the
assistant day shift boss, who so kindly informed her that maybe at the
first of the year they might be able to put her back part time, but
fulltime with benefits would not be happening. CP DEALERS why did they lie
to this poor sick woman? Well they did not want to give her unemployment.
Oh and here is the kicker, we were informed on sat. we

I have been getting .25 cents raise for 8 years long

close. I am very upset about that (WOO...HOO). What a big raise we had, we
still do. We have been getting this kind of raise since the gas price was
.99 cents a gallon (FOR ME AND SOME FOLKS ANYWAY). Now, gas price,
grocery, everything is more expensive. I want 15 dollars per hours (at
least).

TWU" pins. They did come out with the pins yesterday and are for

We agree! EVERYONE who supports the Union should now ALL

paying union dues and I would really like to put that in perspective:
1. It is a right to work state and NO ONE has to pay
union dues when we vote the union in...me personally...I WILL BE HAPPY TO
PAY 5O DOLLARS A MONTH TO PROTECT MY MONEY. THAT IS 600 DOLLARS A YEAR!
2. I know in my heart that this corporation will seize
our money now if they get a chance. Let's say they take:
$80,000 x 15% = 12,000 dollars a year
$80,000 x 20% = 16,000 dollars a year
$90,000 x 15% = 13,500 dollars a year
$90,000 x 20% = 18,000 dollars a year
And that is to say if that is all they do! What if they took all the tokes
from all the properties and split with all the dealers and all the
floormen....I think $600 a year looks pretty damn good!! Especially with
all the other benefits you can protect and eventually, raises, seniority
and job protection.

In a courtroom if a lawyer can discredit a witness, the
rest of their testimony becomes worthless. Harrah's high priced lawyers
tell us to trust them and not an unknown union. Southwest airline workers
are happy with the TWU, they have one of the best contracts in their
industry.
However they fail to explain to us why we should trust
them. Just look at the facts. Every day in the press we read how Harrah's
has broken the law. First at the Rio then Harrah's and now the Flamingo,
they are also involved in a lawsuit with an Indian tribe. Tom Jenkin said
he would not take our tokes ,while Jan Jones told us they might still take
them. J.W. said he would never take our money, when he has been telling us
who to pay or not pay for years. They tell us we may never get a contract
but forget to tell us that they have just signed a great deal with the
cocktail waitress and bartenders etc.
Show me a dealer who has negotiated a pay raise or who pays almost zero
towards their health costs and I might just believe you.
We have to vote YES as they can not be Trusted

Let us not all forget that it was Wike who took our
"toke bylaws" away from us! Not only did he cancel our Hospital
Tokes and Death Benefit tokes (which many Dealers paid into those funds
for decades), he also took away our ability to even vote on any existing
or new bylaws! He was controlling our tokes!
His "secretary" stated, "You will pay who we tell you
to pay, when we tell you to pay them and how much we tell you to pay them"
to the Dealers Committee. Trust Wike? NO WAY!
Now Mr. Jenkin is another one who can NOT be trusted!
Remember what he did to all of the non-union cocktail waitresses at the
Rio! He fired everyone of them and made them all reapply for their jobs as
"Bevertainers".
Only ONE was rehired! She lost ALL seniority and benefits! When you click
the Bevertainer article, pay close attention to the
"Dealertainer" section as well. Is this who we
are supposed to trust? NO WAY!
We expect to hear from the "$94 Million Dollar
Scheister", Gary Loveman, before this is all over. Are we to trust
him? The man who is supposed to be the "protector of the
shareholders"? The man, who for his own personal portfolio, bought a
share of the Boston Celtics, and as a result has had to remove ALL betting
lines on ALL Celtics games at ALL Harrah's properties, resulting in lost
shareholder revenue that could total in the millions? All for his own
personal satisfaction and income? Trust Loveman? NO
WAY!
These "executives" are trying to
convince us that a Union is no good for us, but in reality, it is they who
are no good for us! They have already proven it!

To the Dealers of Caesars Palace:
Please be aware that even if Harrah’s, Caesars Palace, or an executive gives
you a signed letter or document with a promise not to seize or “share”
your tokes with other employees (or any other promise) it is not binding. They
would only be trying to buy some time so you will not vote in the TWU.
Ask dealers who were around in the early 1980s and signed an agreement with
the IRS that they will come into 100% compliance on their tokes in return for
the IRS “promise” to not audit them for back taxes on tokes from previous
years.
After several years, audits for those dealers did indeed start for the period
prior to the agreement (despite being in 100% current compliance for their
tokes). When they complained and showed the IRS the written agreement signed
by someone high up in the IRS (regional director?) the IRS response was “Oh,
that person does not work for the IRS now so the agreement is no longer in
effect.” The audits continued and the back taxes piled up.
With the upcoming transfer of ownership of Caesars Palace, the new owners will
use this reasoning if in fact there was a signed agreement.
But even if Harrah’s was to continue ownership, they would just choose
someone who was planning on retiring (or someone who they would later fire)
and have them sign the agreement. Then when the person was no longer in
Harrah’s employ, they could say “That person was never authorized to act
on our behalf to make this agreement and it no longer stands”. And there go
your tokes to whoever they want to give a “raise” to.
These coming weeks will be tough on you as you are forced to listen to all the
union-busting lies and half-truths.
They will continue to treat you as naïve children who don’t know enough to
make it through the day. This will bring some of the few remaining undecided
over to the union side as they realize they are being insulted.

Several times we have mentioned what happened at the Las Vegas
Hilton (LVH) about 6-7 years ago, and many do not realize what that was.
Well, as Mr. Wike pointed out to us while giving us his
"biography", he worked at the Las Vegas Hilton. The LVH was at one
time one of the premier Dealing jobs in Las Vegas. Not after Mr. Wike was done
with it it wasn't.
The Dealers at the Las Vegas Hilton were in a similar situation
as we are, they were organizing to join a Union. Well, Mr. Wike made MANY
promises to the Dealers there to persuade them all to vote "no" for
the Union. As a result, they voted "no" and are not now represented by
any Union. As for the "promises" made by Mr. Wike? He kept NONE of
them! NOT ONE! Now, look at the LVH today. Not even close to what they once used
to be.
Are we to suffer the same fate as the LVH? ONLY if we let the
likes of Mr. Wike persuade us. Then we have no Union and he retires to his
pre-fabricated log home and lives in infamy while we continue to suffer. Is that
what we want? Think about it.

Palace continues to argue that TWU will not obtain for us any improvements and
they are concerned that we will end up with worse conditions than before!
Just who will be negotiating the contract?
We the dealers represented by L.V. Dealers Local 721 and Harrah's/Caesars
Palace will.
Our dealers union will negotiate on our behalf and if management were
sincere they would want to better our condition also, not threaten to make it
worse for us!
The reason they
are concerned is precisely because we will negotiate a favorable contract for
us all and that means they will no longer be able to wield unchallenged
control over our tokes, wages, working conditions, disciplinary policies,
health insurance and retirement.
Next week they will step up the opposition to our union
drive! We are ready for their
assault! We have promised to
speak in behalf of the concerns of the majority of dealers here at Caesars
Palace.
The “union dues” question is bogus and you can read
about it yourself at The Nevada Office of the Labor Commissioner to
verify it yourself! The TWU
believes that most of us will gladly pay our dues for the benefits we have
obtained.
The
Nevada Office of the Labor Commissioner will confirm the following:
Nev. Rev. Stat. §
613.270. Compelling person to join a labor organization or to
strike against his will or to leave his employment prohibited.
It shall be unlawful for any employee, labor
organization, or officer, agent or member thereof to compel or attempt to
compel any person to join any labor organization or to strike against his will
or to leave his employment by any threatened or actual interference with his
person, immediate family or property. (Adopted at General Election 1952.)
If you work primarily in a Right
to Work state, except on certain federal property, you not only
have the right to refrain from becoming a union member, you cannot be required
to pay dues or an agency fee to the union unless you choose to join the union.
Employees who work on federal property may or may not be protected by their
state's Right to Work law, depending on specific circumstances.
The
contract that we obtain will be in writing and you can bet that we will gladly
sign it!
If
Caesars Palace management will back up their half hearted claim to “bargain
in good faith” we will have a contract like the Plumbers, Grounds Keepers (landscaping), Stagehands (showroom), Painters,
Carpenters (the guys who fix our tables), Electricians, Plumbers; Maintenance, Cocktail Servers, Bartenders,
Maids, Porters, Valet, Slot Mechanics, Bellmen, Dishwashers, Food Servers,
Bussers, Convention Workers, Banquet Workers, Waiters,
Waitresses, and those in the Sign Shop!
Here
is a thought for Caesars Palace management team.
Why not Debate our TWU Representatives on these issues and invite all
the dealers at Caesars Palace to hear the “Facts.” This includes the Pussy
Cat Dolls Dealers too! Let them
hear the “facts” and ask any questions they wish to ask.

RESPONSE:
We do have a copy of the CBA which covers the Dealers in
Detroit. The contract is very large in volume so it is not feasible to place it
on the website. If you would like to read the contract, we have left a copy with
the TWU at their Maryland Parkway office.
We also have copies of contracts from various other Unions at
Caesars Palace. Again, we left them with the TWU and they too can be viewed
there.

a motion by gambling giant Harrah's that would have dismissed a June
2007 judgment enforcement action commenced by the Catskill Litigation
Trust against it. That action seeks to collect about $1.8 billion in
class action judgments, plus interest, awarded by the St. Regis Mohawk
Tribal Court in March 2001 against Caesars Entertainment, which Harrah's
bought in June 2005. "We are pleased with this ruling

We received some very interesting news today. Did you all know that when
any member of the Operating Engineers has to attend a "mandatory
meeting" that Harrah's has to pay them for FOUR HOURS for a one hour
meeting? At $24+ an hour ($96+ per meeting per employee), we bet they don't
have many meetings. Dealers on the other hand get their $7 and told, "But
we paid you to attend".

If, according to your letters, we are going to lose our ever shrinking 401k and
PTO shouldn’t you be elated? Haven’t you already been reducing them? So, why
do you care?

can STILL do anything you want with our money! So, why do you care?
If, as you say, we have chosen poor union representation, one that doesn’t
know the business and can be easily mowed over! Why do you care? (By the way,
our union will have thousands of years experience the moment we vote “yes”)
If we get that “horrible” contract, like the Frontier, you still keep all
the control! So, why do you care?
You say you have “good relationships with many unions” but you don’t want
a good relationship with this “ineffective” and “inexperienced” union?
We should be a push over then, right? So again, why do you care?
If it makes “no sense to get involved with this “unknown union” and we
“have everything to lose” then you have everything to gain, right? So, why
do you care?
If we decide to strike, which takes a majority vote of ALL Caesars dealers not
the TWU, then you could lock us out and replace us all with low pay, low benefit
employees which would save you millions. So, why do you care?
Why? Because even a “horrible contract” is still a contract and after 40
years of “they’ll take it and they’ll like it,” you will be forced to
negotiate with us, THE DEALERS OF CAESARS PALACE!

The Union is the only way to go anymore, I used to say we didn't
need a union, that was when we had good insurance when the casino took care of
the workers. Is not like that anymore, every year they take more and more and
now Steve Wynn had decided that he can take our tokes. All these casinos say
they wont do that, but not one of them will put it in writing. They are leaving
the door open for themselves just in case they want to change their mind down
the road.
Do you want to get yourself set up with mortgages and car
payments, paying your own insurance having kids and then have the casino tell
you that they will supplement other workers pay with your tokes? REMEMBER,
without a union they can take whatever they want from you at any time. They have
been squeezing us for years and it WILL continue without a union.
For your own security and for your future as a dealer, do not
let them sway you! If you vote "no" your putting more money in their
pocket, that is what they see this as. We are their big bonus down the
road.
Don't listen to what they say.
Listen to the dealers who know, who have been doing this for
years.
The union is to guarantee our future as Dealers!
RESPONSE:
We believe many feel the same way as this Reader does when they
say at one time we did not need the Union, but now that things have changed, we
do. How many "stories" do the young Dealers hear from the older
Dealers? And how many times do BOTH agree things will never return to the way it
was? We know it won't, so we must change to protect ourselves, our income and
our futures.
We hear almost every day from Dealers who are having some
financial problems. It is not the older Dealers, nor is it the new Dealers. It
is the "mid-career" Dealers. Why is that? We believe the older Dealers
already have their life financially secured from spending wisely in the past,
and most of their children are grown up. We know the new Dealers have yet to
have to pay for mortgages and college for their children for the most part, so
haven't hit the struggles. But the "mid-career" Dealers have been
caught with rising costs and a toke average that is fluctuating greatly.
How many times have we heard Dealers say, "We should have
organized years ago when we had the chance"? Many. Is that what we want to
be saying in 20 years from now too? Who will be saying that? The new Dealers of
today. Don't set yourselves up for the same mistakes. In 20 years from now set
yourselves up today so you can say, "We sure are glad we took the advice of
the "old guard" and organized. Life is good."
No, we will NOT be getting paid $20 an hour with our first
contract, but we do know higher wages are possible with a Union and are
impossible without one. If tokes are down for a Bartender, the $3K a month they
make in wages can help them through much better than the $750 a month helps us
through. The difference can be bankruptcy, repossessions and no college fund
versus the mortgage paid, the car in the drive and the kids starting college.
I heard an IHO say the other day, "No we will not get a big
raise immediately, but then again to build a house we must start with the
foundation". Let's all get the foundation laid for next year, and the years
following.

In the meetings we recently had, where we went up in small
groups, and got to listen to Jimmy Wike bad rap the union, saying the same old
lies, that we know are lies, I have to think that he's obviously hoping that
there are still some of us out there that are still oblivious to the truth, and
therefore, will believe him. We know the FACTS though, but, obviously he
doesn't.
He brings up how just because a single eccentric individual like Steve Wynn did
what he did to the dealers tokes at Wynn, that we shouldn't panic, and think
that Caesar's would do the same thing, because they at Caesar's Palace, had no
intentions of doing what Steve Wynn did (even though Caesar's refuses to put it
in writing, with a signature). What Jimmy Wike forgot to mention was that,
whatever this single eccentric individual by the name of Steve Wynn did in the
past, everyone in town always followed suit eventually. Let's talk about the
service industry. How has that changed? How many people's lives did that affect?
How did their income change? Who was the first to get rid of Showroom
Maitre'D's? Steve Wynn. And if you went to a show, and sat at your table waiting
for the show to start, didn't waiters or waitresses take your orders for drinks
or bottles of champagne and serve them to us? Where are these Maitre'D's, and
servers now? Did they get fired, or placed somewhere else in the casino? either
of which definitely impacted their income. Steve Wynn was the first to change
all that, and guess what, everyone followed. Now, when you go see a show, you
buy a ticket, like you're going to a movie theatre, then you stand in long lines
to buy a drink, and then you carry your own drinks to your numbered row seat.
Jimmy Wike says we should believe in him and in Harrah's, even though they won't
put anything in writing. If you mean what you say, there should be no problem
putting it in writing, with a signature. Jimmy Wike brings up how great our
money is, but what does that mean to us, when a lot of us come into work
everyday wondering if this will be the day we get fired. If this will be our
last day. There was a time, when the only way you could get fired from your job
was if you were caught stealing, or you were caught drinking, or doing street
drugs or drugs that were not prescribed for you, on the job, and I think, and
I'll stand corrected on this if I'm wrong, if you committed a "crime",
and were arrested by the police outside of work, and that may be up to the
discretion of the employer and the crime committed. Well, all that has changed.
Now, if someone doesn't like you, they can make you a target, and you can get
fired over stupid things like mistakes, insubordination, too many points (and
you can get points you don't even know you're getting, until they decide to tell
you, and for things as stupid as clocking in a minute early). You can be fired
now, for just disagreeing with someone from upper management, or trying to tell
your side of the story. Bottom line, you can get fired for anything now.
Pussy Cat Dealers, please beware, because you are one of us. We do not harbor
ill feelings towards you. It's always uncomfortable when you are new to a job. I
have been at Caesar's for many years. Not a lot of people talked to me when I
first started working at Caesar's. I sat by myself for a long time, in fact, I
ate out of the vending machines for a month, because I didn't know where
everyone went to go eat, and I was too afraid to ask someone. One day I finally
overheard two dealers say they were going to go eat next break, so I followed
them. It wasn't because the dealers were so unfriendly, it's the nature of how
it is being new. Talk to the one's you may have felt bad vibes from. Help
protect your future, as we're trying to protect yours and ours, and those who
will continue to deal, long after we retire. Believe me, you're all young and
beautiful, but there will always be younger and beautiful girls ready to fill
your spot in the years ahead, and what if you aren't one of the favorite few in
the next 2,3,or 4 years from now? and they target you? who will protect you?
What if you get married or have a baby, and you can't lose the weight fast
enough for upper management? What if you just naturally put on 10 pounds over
the next year or so, and management doesn't think you look as good in your
uniform as you use to? Do you think management will say that's o.k, we'll just
make you full time or keep you part-time and you can just deal in a regular
Caesar's shirt from now on and keep your job? Maybe .... if you are lucky enough
to be or continue to stay one of the favorite few further on down the road. If
not ..., Who is going to protect you then? The union would, but not upper
management. Without the union, we have no protection. We are at the mercy of
upper management, with our only prayer being that maybe they don't hate us
enough to fire us.
Jimmy Wike says how we shouldn't let bad feelings, or our anger at anyone in
management want us to vote for a union, because we have a real good thing going
on at work right now, since we make good money, they're building a new tower
worth over a billion dollars (which I can't for the life of me figure out what
that has to do with our working conditions now or later) and that we should
believe in them, and not let this union vote be a distraction at this time of
year during the Christmas Holidays, because it should be a time of year shared
with our friends and family. Speaking for myself, and other dealers who I think
feel the same way as I do, I personally can't think of a better gift to give
myself, my family, and my friends, during the Holidays than to vote YES for the
union, so that we don't have to worry about the threat of financial woes and job
security, and really have cause for celebration due to the fact that because of
the union we can continue to provide and put a roof over our families heads,
without the usual constant doubts and fears that have been our constant shadow,
that is and has always been lurking in the back of our hearts and minds, since
Jimmy Wike came in and Harrah's took over.
RESPONSE:
Many who are outside looking in think that we are doing this
because we are "greedy" (like the J.O. who writes/owns the
"Dealer's News" and who also makes his living from the casinos where
he sends temps to. He then also charges the Dealers $450 if they happen to get
hired by one of the jobs he sent them out to. Like he isn't worried about the
Unions ruining his business that takes advantage of Dealers? Right. Maybe he is
afraid that the Union will place a Dealer in a job better than he can?). Well it
is not about "greed", but about security, just as the Reader has
pointed out. Yes, everyone can use more money, even the highest of high rollers.
And keeping our jobs and tokes secure is not about greed, but about being able
to ensure we can pay our bills, which is tough to do if someone gets fired
because someone didn't like they way they looked today or was perceived as a
"threat" to their "control". No, it's not about
"greed", and anyone who thinks it is must be greedy themselves.
We will say one thing that CP DID put into writing, and that
is the Poker Dealers are excluded from our vote (but they CAN organize as
well, just not with our group), yet they have tried to imply that we may have
to pool with them. We will soon be providing everyone with the
"signed" stipulation to prove, in a signed binding legal Federal
agreement, that they can not do that. Proof that what they are telling us is
lies.

Reading the BS answers to the Caesars Palace "Answers
to important questions" that was included in my last letter from wike I
couldn't believe the stuff they wrote! They answered in question 5 that
"One possible result of negotiations is that tokes are pooled with poker
dealers". Can they do that?
RESPONSE:
That answer itself shows how they are twisting things and
trying anything to scare people. When we petitioned the NLRB for our election
we had to include those who were to be included and those who would be
excluded. On this list of those excluded, Poker Dealers were SPECIFICALLY
EXCLUDED from our vote, which management agreed to and signed.
Now, they want to put out propaganda like that? Shows EXACTLY
who they are and how they are lying to our faces. If anyone would like to see
the stipulation signed by management that has excluded Poker Dealers, contact
us and we will get you a copy.
Just this one "answer" they gave destroys ALL
credibility in what they are saying. But then again, so does many other things
they are saying. But this one is in writing and signed by them.

of a pension: culinary local 226 have offered a 401k with their
pension for a couple of years now but the difference is there is no company
match because the company pays into their pension plan. So it could be possible

get them back in the first place? We haven't forgotten about how they were
taken away from us without our input at all. What is to say that it won't
happen again? No, we are not mad at anyone, we just want security for our
money and our futures. We do not want to end up in the same situation as the
Wynn dealers. Deal with us, no matter what union we choose, just like you deal
with the other unions at Caesars. That's all we want.

TO MANIPULATE US!!! You force us to sit there and listen to your garbage about
the TWU, our emotional state, how we need to be educated (because were stupid),
how the new owners are going to put money into the company, yet you never once
acknowledge our real issues (wages, tokes, benefits, security, seniority and
401k). Just like always you pretend they don't exist! Well we pretended to
listen to you! We have had enough! And no matter what you say to us anymore, on
December 22 the union will be voted in!
RESPONSE:
We have found what Mr. Wike has been saying (from his note
cards) is mostly half-truths at best. We also found it interesting that he
said everyone MUST vote, and that is NOT TRUE. Nobody can be forced to vote,
one way or the other. If a Dealer does not want to vote, they do NOT have to.
If someone chooses NOT to vote, it will NOT be counted as either a
"yes" or a "no" vote. The ONLY votes that will be counted
are those actually cast. So when Mr. Wike states, "if you do not vote,

As an IN House Organizer, I have had several dealers ask me
about "strike", the fear that management has intentionally introduced
in their letters to our homes. Let me say for one, I have no intention of
walking out on a strike. Yes, there are plenty of people out there that would
love to step into my job. I happen to like my job very much so I don't plan on
giving it up until I AM READY. We are the first baby step in a long growing
process. We would have no power if WE were to go on strike so "WHY WOULD WE
ALL VOTE TO DO IT AND IT WOULD HAVE TO BE VOTED ON BY THE DEALER BODY NOT
DECIDED BY THE TWU".
After we vote the union in, all of our benefits are locked in
while negotiations are going on, even if it takes 5 or 10 years and that is why
we started this union drive-TO PROTECT WHAT WE HAVE-- and not be fired without
just cause or replaced because we have a little padding or a few wrinkles!
As we are negotiating our first contract, the whole of all
dealers will be unionizing and then we will have credibility not only in the
company but politically. No politician in the state of Nevada will be able to
sell us out so lightly to pacify the likes of Steve Wynn.
So please, my fellow dealers, don't be intimidated by their
scare tactics and prove once and for all "WE ARE SMARTER THAN THAT".
On the 22nd, go and vote YES!
If you are ready to retire soon, please, go and help pave a
better road for all the young dealers stepping into our shoes. They don't
realize they need protection, just as we didn't realize it when we were young
and having a grand time with all the money we made. If you are young, please,
trust someone that has seen the many changes and who have been lied to time and
time again by the many owners we have had. Corporate America is sucking us all
dry!!!
Some of us may never realize the great things that can come
from a union (because we may be on our way to retirement) but we have stepped
out and risked our jobs and security for our own families, for the betterment of
all dealers and our profession.
I implore all of you to put differences aside, seek the facts
and come to vote yes on December 22.

So, the city has tried to go union before and failed. This is
not six years ago and please don't compare Caesars to the Frontier, may she rest
in peace, Tropicana etc.
So, the Frontier contract said management had control of the
tokes. They would have to have most of the control. It's not like we can get
total control and keep our own or shift for shift. Were going to have still sign
a tip compliance. We don't get to decide that, the IRS does.
It's a negotiation. Anything they want WE get to decide on
it. So, everything is up for negotiation according to Jimmy's' letter. For
example 401k; I'm glad maybe I can get a 401k where I control my investments and
put my money where I want. I use to have that. Maybe we can get that back.
Everything goes to the table according to them. Tokes, PTO,
401K, all there to negotiate on. You must be salivating because it sounds like
you can try and get anything you want. What do you think you are going to
negotiate for in regards to our tokes? Are you saying your going try to
negotiate to change them? If, you were really going be able to come to the table
and negotiate some ridiculous changes, then you would be salivating and not
trying to stop us. Sounds, like a pretty good deal for you!!
Why do you think we would have to strike? Of course we would
not do this. Why would we want to? That doesn't sound like negotiating in good
faith to me. Sure, everything is going be on the table. We have to agree on a
contract about everything. Every rule and procedure and inner workings are going
to be on paper.
Vote yes!! We are a family we have lost some brothers and
sisters on the way. Let's stand together.

I got my second letter and was more appalled than the first
time.
1. Caesars Palace is afraid of the union: They will lose
control, and instead of taking they could end of having to give.
2. Why is Caesars now focusing attention on the dealers? They never did before.
They will pay hundreds of thousands to keep a union out.
3. Yes, you can be neutral. But I urge you to think of your future and mine. How
much more do they have to take?
4. No, you don't have to vote for a union, but think about where you will be in
a few years if you don't.
5. YES! Your tokes will be protected! Whatever you have at the time of petition,
STANDS!
6. If the Union is not voted in...heads will roll! Were not stupid!
7. "Nothing" is right. Just like always. They will never give us
anything. They will only take.
8. The dealers put absolutely nothing at risk by voting in the union. In fact
they get to keep everything they have and bargain for more!
9. WE WILL NEGOTIATE!!! As by law, the casino is required too!
10. Does Caesars Palace really want a strike? Do they want the customers to see
how cheap they are? How would that look? "All we wanted was better working
conditions" but...They said no! How would that look?
11. There would not be a strike! Once again.. were not STUPID!
12. The TWU is doing us a favor! Something Harrah's won't do! We will be our own
voice! And we do not have to pay dues if we choose not too. This is a right to
work state.
Please stop TRYING to intimidate and scare us! Remember we have been existing
under your umbrella of fear for a long time now, its only made us stronger!

of pro-TWU dealers": If
it was only a handful, the management wouldn’t be putting up such an

they are saying to us is that they refuse to acknowledge our concerns.
Then they make the following oxymoronic statement:

"Horrible contract at the Frontier": The
dealers at the Frontier were responsible for whatever contract they agreed
with. The point is that they
agreed to a contract and it wasn’t forced upon them by the TWU.
We are forced to accept anything management wants and have no say in
it! Precisely the reason why we
want a Union Voice. As you
noticed, the Frontier and the Union had to both agree to it.
"Gotten
nowhere in the last six months": Steve Wynn has attended nine
sessions negotiating their contract. Much has to be resolved during such an event and when it is
resolved, both The Wynn and the TWU Dealers Local 721 will have to agree.
"TWU
failing": Take an honest look around.
Unions in the industry are blossoming all around including our sister
properties in Atlantic City and elsewhere.
Caesars visits the website and knows of all the other successful
activities around the country. Why would management intentionally mislead you?
"What
does it know about dealers and the casino industry": Please
don’t swallow that argument! We, the dealers, are the union! We make the decisions and are not dictated to like management
has been doing for years to their advantage!
"Your
vote is not about": We are doing this to have a voice at a
bargaining table!
"Protecting your
wages" – Our tokes need protection!
"Better wage
increases" – Yes! It
is! Pennies cast our way are not
reasonable.

Since 1980, when Holiday Inns acquired the Holiday Casino, later
renamed "Harrah's" in 1997.
2. How long has the TWU been representing working Americans?
Since 1934. Making it 63 years older than the Harrah's (as we
know it).
2. How long has Gary Loveman (our CEO) been in the gaming
business?
Since 1998, less than 10 years today.
3. What did Harrah's top executive, our CEO Gary Loveman,
know about gaming when he took the job at Harrah's?
NOTHING. Gary Loveman is
an American business executive and former academic. Before joining Harrah's
as Chief Operating Officer in 1998, Loveman graduated Phi Beta Kappa from
Connecticut's Wesleyan University in 1982, spent two years at the Federal
Reserve Bank of Boston, running regression analysis on the impact of the
burgeoning budget deficit on interest rates and was a professor at the Harvard
Business School.
4. When Gary Loveman started with Harrah's, did he have to
work his way up the ladder to become CEO, or was he appointed a high profile
position from day one?
Loveman STARTED as the COO of Harrah's in 1998 (the number 2

This is for the Pussycat Dealers:
Hello Ladies! We would like to address several points about
something to all of you, and that is the separation between the "old
time" Dealers and you Ladies.
First of all, when management called the first "mandatory
meetings" concerning the current Union drive we have going on at CP, were
any of you invited to attend? No you were not. Why not? The question,
"Where are the Pussycat Dealers" was even asked by the other Dealers
in those meetings. Yes, we were concerned why you ladies were not present and
why management chose to exclude you all. After all, you are ALL Dealers at
Caesars Palace.
Next, in your "captive audience" meeting yesterday
(Friday 11/30/07), were ANY of you invited to attend a meeting with the
"old time" Dealers? No you were not.
IT IS MANAGEMENT WHO IS TRYING TO SEPARATE US! That is
VERY obvious. While you were all in the "Training Room", what was
said to any of you about the "old time" Dealers? Was anything at all
said to you all about them? We know it was. That was just the beginning of
management trying to divide us.
In actuality, the "old time" Dealers have said many
times that they would like to be the ones in the Training Room teaching you
ladies how to deal and the intricacies of the games and career. But instead,
you were all trained by someone who is in management. Why is that?
There are plenty of "old time" Dealers who have said they would like to assist in the
training who could/can teach many things that have been learned through their
vast years of experience, things that could some day save your job. Think about that please.
Mr. Wike made the statement "The only reason the
"Old time" Dealers are talking to you now is because of the Union
drive". Well, that is totally untrue. Think about it, are there any of
you ladies by chance dating any "old time" Dealers? Also, ask any
Dealer who has been hired at CP in say the last ten years, "How long did
it take for you to integrate with the "old time" Dealers?" You
may be surprised by the answers you get. The answers will be very similar to
how long it has taken you ladies. And those Dealers, when new to CP, were
veteran Dealers at the time!
Also know this, there was the possibility of
"excluding" the Pussycat Dealers from the Union vote. Did we? No we
did not. Why not? Because we DO want you here. We DO want you all to have the
same benefits as we do. You were all included in the vote because we want
you to be one of us. We were not "forced" by CP to include you
ladies in our Union vote.
Pussycat Dealers realize this...YOU ARE DEALERS AT CAESARS
PALACE...PERIOD. WHY is management trying to divide us so?
